We Didn't Do It!
The Turkish government leaders made sure this plan of genocide was in complete secrecy. This premeditated plan served their want to completely deny the whole thing. The reason for this is because the Allies (Great Britain, France, America, and others) wanted to make sure the Muslim Turks weren't going to anihilate the Christain minority, which consists mainly of Armenians. Their plan was to make sure as many of the massacres as possible were done away from the public. These marches the Armenians had to do were just to hide the killings of these people, by hiding them from their families and killing them in deserted areas of the Turkish territory. If anything, the Turkish goverment officials thought, the murdering of hundreds of thousands of the Armenians would look just as a justifiable response to a time of war. Also, since the deportations were led into places far from habitation, there was to be a delay from anyone else finding out about this happening.
To begin this video is a clip of Turkish officers after a rally outside an Armenian Genocide rememberance exhibition. The officers barged in at the end of the rally and took down all pictures and other artifacts from the genocide. They also paraded around the exhibition with Turkish flags, and people saying "this is all lies." After is an explanation of how Turkey tried to destroy all evidence of the genocide ever happening, including monuments, records, and even buildings. They kept one Armenian Church, but destroyed everything that had to do with Armenian culture. The Turkish officers even changed the names of animals as if to say Armenians were never any part of the Turkish background.
This video shows Turkey's response to Arnold Schwarzenegger and Orphan Pamuk recognizing the genocide. The Turks, even though they argue the genocide never happened, become extremely defensive when it comes to these two recognitions, and end up boycotting all Schwarzenegger movies, and burning all of Pamuk's books and throwing him in jail for three years. If the genocide never happened or wasn't a big deal, why do the Turks always become so defensive whenever someone new recognizes the genocide??
