Recognition, Restoration, Reparation
A worldwide recognition of this genocide will be a tough task, for Turkey and Turkey's many allies will not admit to the genocide. The hopes of the Armenians is that if the genocide is recognized by the entire world, then that will bring restoration to what they consider their "Holy Land". For the past 3000 years, the Armenians have lived there, but were suddenly kicked out by the Turks in the time of the genocide. Also, along with the recognition from the Turks, Armenians would like if they were forced to pay reparations whether money-wise or government-wise, such as not letting Turkey in the United Nations, and such examples as that.
The U.S. House of Representatives speaks about the Armenian Genocide and debates on whether the event was actually a genocide or not. They do not come to any conclusion, and still to this day the U.S. government has not admitted recognition.
The Recognitions Today
As of today, the recognition of the Armenian Genocide is not spread enough to any Armenian's liking. Many nations have come to a resolution that this was a genocide, but also, other major countries have not.
The 21 countries in which officially recognize the Armenian Genocide are:
Argentina, Armenia, Belguim, Belarus, Canada, Chile, Cyprus, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Lithuania, Lebanon, Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, Uruguay, Vatican City, and Venezuela.
The only main countries which disagree with these 21 nations are the United States and Turkey. The United States only agree with Turkey because they are close allies with them, and we rely on their position very much. They are located close to Iraq and all other Middle Eastern countries, so the United States uses Turkey as a military and air force base. Also, Turkey happens to have the second greatest army in the world, behind the United States. Although Obama refuses to consider this a genocide, 43 out of the 50 states within have recognized genocide.
